"some things you will think of yourself,...some things the Gods will put into your mind"
Back in the third grade I was faced the challenge of deciding in which school to go to. Fenn was one option while staying at my public school was another. My original reaction had been (of course) to stay at my public schools fearing a new school. After I had taken the placement test and had gotten into Fenn I still did not want to go. My parents however had a different idea. They tried to persuade me into thinking this was good for me saying 'you will get a better education' etc... I knew it was time to decide if I was going to Fenn or not. I picked no.
Determination is just one of the many things to lead to become an Olympic athlete. Not fake determination which lasts for a day, but following through be the first one to enter and the last one to leave. The one person who's life would be fully committed to one thing, one sport. To be your universe to practice and practice this all requires determination. I am not saying you should drop everything your doing and practice for the rest of your life, but just hearing the voices of each of these Olympians is really eye opening. This video is perfect for motivation and determination, I liked it I hope you will too.
“There are no bad pictures; that's just how your face looks sometimes.”
Photos maintain a sight and a memory. Many stories can be told by a single photo. Not just the moment that it was taken in, but the moments that will form because of it. Taking photos now are quick, easy and endless which creates a problem. (I am making a reference to Teddy in my books post within the comment section.)Photos were once a hard set up with different angles and only used for special events. Even later in history photos were used for meaningful things. Mostly this was true because it was hard to access. Photos were meant to hold the memories and reminders to people who need them.
I find it very interesting how the Fenn library is used so much except I almost never see anyone with books (even on we read days). Besides the books we read for class e.g. The Odyssey; everyone forgets that we have a huge library with a bunch of books. Books are weird because they are almost addictive, once I start reading books I keep going whether it is a series or not. Books help me be a better student because they help expand my knowledge and vocabulary just by reading. Nowadays it has become to hard to read on unoriginal things like a kindle or iPad because their are many distractions (distractions are attractions). Since only 8th graders (and Fitz) will read this we have a great book source for a very limited amount of time we show use it wisely. With the saying get lost in the book it is true, by reading I usual almost shut out the rest of the world were everything becomes fuzzy and quite except for the book. Here are three words that books are good for....
How to be a poet is a poem to remember. This one poem captures the precise meaning of writing a poem. It may seem like a physical means that he creates this poem but I assure you that this poem has a the poet think mentally to create such a great poem. This stands as a basis for all other poems, a start for all other poems. Wendell Berry (author) decided that he was going to write about writing and to make it stand out above the others. This poem is different because he made it different. How he describes the absolute detail of this poem.
This Ballad could have been read by two methods like a sea shanty or regular tone. I prefer the sea shanty version; anyways this shows the true colors of one person (the captain). Making such a big gamble his own daughter within the very bet. He should have made a more reasonable bet or gave the boy his winnings. He never needed to kill the poor boy. This is a good example of the natural greed and lies that fill our world; and how we need to be careful with our actions.
School projects are like a band-aid you either take it off fast or slow and painful. It is always ideal to find a topic that interests you during a project, for example in science I picked fast food because it interests me. That is how you make a project good, by making you want to research and create something that interests you. I prefer these over tests because these projects show everything you want to be seen.
The fast thump of your beating heart, feeling imaginary sweat trickle down your forehead, anxiety building, words forgotten. It doesn't matter how many times you practice and remember your lines stage fright is a different animal. One that tears at you and distracts you while you present. When I am up on stage I feel like I entered a higher state of consciousness. Where time slows down, your mind becomes clear (not always a good thing) and you become more alert and aware of what happens. Dropping pencils seems likes cannons firing, whispers makes the victim feel like he/ she is failing the presentation. Averted eyes, making you avert your own eyes and numb legs. I would be lying if I said talking in front of people does not help you in the stretch of life. It is trying to swat the butterflies inside me own or your own stomach. Stage fright is a problem that can only be beaten by keep on trying to speak in front of others each times picking up new tricks to keep your own nerves out of the way.
Even in the cold, harsh, pelting snow shoveling is always good for the soul. We all have to shovel it is a known fact, parents know we have grown to that certain age where we can be useful for chores. Shoveling is one of those chores that just devours hour upon hour of time; however shoveling is good for more than having a clear path. Shoveling gives the shoveller a lot of time to think. This could be used on planning the next day or just grinding on how he/ she got stuck with this chore. I chose to reflect upon how the chores and tasks we receive change how act as a person. Even for the little things like an already shoveled sideway (like the picture to the left) just being grateful. That is why shoveling is good for the soul.
Winter and Summer, we take both of these things for granite until they are gone. Everyone describes the winter to cold and the summer too hot; however the time transitioning is still too cold or too hot. Maybe twice or three times a year can there be a 'perfect' temperature. I am not saying that I don't do this either, but it would help to have a bigger palit of the 'perfect' day. Motivation is the key word to get up and off that xbox and start being creative. Don't fry the one thing you use most in your life (your brain). Winter and Summer are just two labels for different temperature.
